I did social sciences at university when the fields were still known as “human sciences”. It was a creationist university. I’m a Darwinist.
Linguistics was not my best subject at university, but it has:
a. Encouraged me to take up journalism
b. Encouraged me to perservere with web editing
Sometimes, it’s impossible to believe that code is poetry (PHP? Poetry?) but the code complements my moving and still photography very well. I still won’t compare code with sculpture (sorry, it's computer science), but yes, digital creatives can have their cake and eat it.
Journalism: I’ve written on many things, except politics. I wrote for a national newspaper once. Yes, I was a technology reporter.
My art collective, Sojournposse, which I co-founded with my twin sister, a Creative Director, participated in London Design Week in September 2009. The collective was one of the guest artists at Nissan Design Europe's East meets West exhibition.
My graduate digital anthropology course at University College London started in the same month, interestingly. I write barcodes and tinker with handsets a lot. I'm intrigued by how mobile phones are used in conflicts and for healthcare purposes all over the world.
In December 2009, my art collective exhibited at The Situation Modern for a show called One Thousand and One Nights. A 3D installation comprising a chair, a digital 'jinnee' projection and a Latin poem was the centerpiece of the exhibition. I was proving a point about an anthropological theory.
In 2007, I won a photojournalism award at the Informa Editorial Summit.
I spent the prize money on a Nikon lens.
