Canada's Amorfix Life Sciences reports 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity for its EP-vCJD test in a second blinded trial of human blood samples, in collaboration with the UK's National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC).

UK radiotherapy: no "Garden of Eden" – Sikora
Lack of access to diagnostics and an “over 90% under-capacity” in radiotherapy provision are holding back the UK's cancer programmes. So say cancer and health policy experts Karol Sikora and Nick Bosanquet in the draft of an article seen by Clinica, ahead of its publication in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine.

Clinica at RSNA 2008: An interactive feature
This year's Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) conference, held in Chicago, Illinois, had a different focus to last year's, which was dominated by CT's "slice war", says Madeleine Armstrong. Companies are now insisting that the slice war is over, and are focusing on other CT technologies such as spectral imaging.

64-CT valuable tool in cardiac care, US-led study finds

Siemens to unveil "fastest" and "lowest dose" CT at RSNA
Siemens Healthcare will introduce its new CT scanner, the Somatom Definition Flash, at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) meeting next week. The firm claims that the device combines "unprecedented speed…with the lowest dose you can see today in any CT scanner".

A study has found that dual-time point fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT scanning is more accurate at detecting breast cancer than one PET/CT scan.
